In one hand: the thread of a song. In the other: the Song Festival knot. New again, but always the same: weaving between a moment and eternity. We open our eyes every morning, and the sun weaves a blanket of light in the air. When someone puts on the blanket, they become a strand in the fabric of fate.
At the centre of the concert is rising youth and the mature heritage of the Song Festival. Simultaneously a celebration and education. Here — between us — a point in which the inherited golden threads weave into a vivid, mischievous youth and an as-yet unheard and unseen song. The Grand Finale Concert is a meeting point between the Earth and the Sun.
With each new thread, the communal Song Festival fabric expands and envelops generation after generation. And all the Song Festival participants make up the patterns and ornaments in the great massed choir blanket. Everyone is the voice of their generation on the steps of the Silver Grove. Facing time, fate, and a new path.
The Grand Finale repertoire weaves the traditional and the modern, the youthful and the mature, the serious and the playful, while also creating a story about values and what is important to us: relationships, life goals, self confidence, and a responsibility towards our land, people, and country.
The foundations of the concert are contemporary composers from different generations, who have selected both the words of important poets and Latvian folk songs for their pieces. Alongside well-known pieces, the programme also features new works of different genres and styles of music.
Alongside the choir, the concert will feature dance groups, wind orchestras, folklore groups, soloists, and instrumentalists. Participants include Chief Conductors of Honour Arvīds Platpers, Jānis Erenštreits, and Jēkabs Ozoliņš, and Chief Conductors Kaspars Ādamsons, Ilze Balode, Aira Birziņa, Jurģis Cābulis, Līga Celma-Kursiete, Gints Ceplenieks, Eduards Grāvītis, Mārtiņš Klišāns, Māris Sirmais, Rudīte Tālberga, Jevgēņijs Ustinskovs, Romāns Vanags, and Edgars Vītols.
