THE FESTIVAL’S ARTISTIC CONCEPT
I CREATE BY ACTING AND ACT BY CREATING
The tradition and essence of the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival is associated with children and young people’s desire and need to express themselves creatively in multiple ways, not just in song and dance, but also in other ways: playing an instrument, theatre, sport, programming, art or crafts. Creating happens when exercising regularly with a goal. Creating also happens while doing everyday school work. Creating is possible wherever there is enthusiasm and patience.
Acting and creating have twice the strength if we do them together. This celebration is an opportunity to act together to do something we enjoy, and create a festival for ourselves, our family, our group, our school and all of Latvia.
Reinis Suhanovs, author of the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival artistic concept: “The Festival participant is a Festival actor (in the sense of a creator). The Festival happens because each of us individually and all of us together have an undying wish to act and create. I act and create. I act and collaborate. We act, we watch and you watch. We act together to create the Festival. The celebration does not happen without me, without you, or without us.”
